WHAT IS YOGA?
Yoga is a philosophy or science of life, originating in Northern India over 5000 years ago. The practice of Yoga reunites the various aspects of the Self (body, mind, soul). Enlightenment and Union with the Divine is the Ultimate Goal of Yoga.

INTEGRAL YOGA
There are many paths or ways to the attainment of Union. A complete practice of Yoga should contain elements of each path. The Yoga Sutras (Patanjali - approx 200BC) draw together the many threads of Yoga into the practice known as Raj Yoga (the Royal Way). There are Eight Limbs to Raj Yoga, which is also known as Integral Yoga (Yoga with integrity). Practiced in conjunction the Eight Limbs provide a wholistic approach to yoga and to life.

THE EIGHT LIMBS OF RAJ YOGA
1. Yamas - universal code of ethics, social practices.
2. Niyamas - individual code of conduct and self disciplines.
3. Asana - system of physical postures and cleansing practices.
4. Pranayama - breath control, control of prana (life force) in the body.
5. Pratyahara - sense withdrawal, inward attention.
6. Dharana - concentration.
7. Dhyana - contemplation/meditation
8. Samadhi - Self realisation/God realisation. Supreme Bliss. Ultimate Goal of Yoga.
